Royal Sovereign Bowls Club was formed in 2006 from a merger with Royal Parade, Princess Park and Redoubt Bowling Clubs. We take our name from the Royal Sovereign Lightship which is just offshore.
We are affiliated with SCB, Bowls England and SCWB.
We are a flat outdoor lawn bowls club.
We are a small friendly club of ladies and gentlemen. We have 1 green consisting of 6 rinks. Our brick built clubhouse has a glass frontage to enable spectators a view of games, and both Ladies and Gentlemens changing rooms.
Our newly refurbished licensed bar sells beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks at competitive prices.
We host both touring teams and local teams. Our gentlemen play in League Games and these are played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings both home and away. Our Ladies play League Games on Wednesday mornings again both home and away.
We are a progressive bowling club that prides itself on its informal approach to encouraging an atmosphere of friendship and comradeship whilst maintaining the traditional etiquette of bowling for the full enjoyment of the sport.
Throughout the season, our bowling rinks are open daily. We have the necessary bowls equipment to hire for a small fee.
The season sees many touring sides booking matches with us, with many returning visits from previous seasons. We like to welcome back old acquaintances from previous years, but also welcome the opportunities to host new visitors. If your club is interested in booking a match, or as an individual you wish to come along for a game with friends and family, you can find all the required details on our contacts page.
We have informal games during the playing season (roll ups) for which no formal dress is required, apart from flat soled shoes. These take place in the mornings from 9.30 until about 12.15. For new bowlers we offer 3 free "taster" sessions with tuition if it is required. Our kitchen is available for members to make their own tea and coffee during these times.
Our outdoor green has benches placed around to enable spectators to sit and watch in fine weather.
There is a ramp to enable wheelchair users access to the clubhouse in inclement weather or to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
For the occasional bowler just to have a roll up (and some fun) we have Pay As You Play. You do not need to be a member for this. Just turn up.. pay a small green fee (per person) and roll up. Bring your own woods but if you need to hire a set there is a small charge. This is a popular option for anyone who wants to have a game infrequently.
We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to Royal Sovereign Bowls Club..
